If you're looking for a great way to capture an action scene or unexpected event on your iPhone, try Burst mode in Apple's default Camera app. Burst mode lets your iPhone's camera take a series of photos in quick succession at ten frames per second.
When photographing anything fast-paced, like sports, wildlife, or kids playing, Burst mode increases your chances of getting sharp, well-timed images. By taking multiple shots in quick succession, you can choose the best shot that perfectly freezes your subject's movement. Here's how to take photos in burst mode on iPhone.
Taking Pictures in Burst Mode
- In the Camera app, press and drag the shutter button to the left below the viewfinder.
- Keep your finger pressed to continue taking photos in rapid succession.
- Remove your finger from the shutter button when you want to end the burst.
When taking photos in burst mode, notice how the counter increments at the initial shutter position while you hold it down. This shows how many photos are being taken in the current burst.
Apple also includes an option in iOS settings that, when enabled, allows you to press and hold the Volume Up button to take burst photos. Go to Settings ➝ Camera, then turn on Use volume boost for burst shooting.
Select the best shot
- After taking a burst shot, tap the image thumbnail in the Camera app or open the Photos app and select the burst you just took.
- Tap Burst shooting in the upper-left corner, then tap the best shot or shots you want to save as a single photo. (You can swipe across the photos or scroll through the row of thumbnails below to preview them.) Gray dots below the thumbnails indicate photos you want to save.
- Tap Done, then choose Save All or Save Just X Favorites (where X is the number of photos you selected).
When you take a series of Burst photos, they automatically appear in the Photos app under the album name Bursts. You'll also find them in the Recent Days section.
