Apple's Legendary Smart Glasses May Still Be Coming, With Launch In 2027 is on the cards, along with AirPods with extra cameras.

Apple's Vision Pro isn't the company's final vision for the future of head-mounted displays or spatial computing. While there's been talk of smart glasses in the past, we may actually see a pair from Cupertino in a few years.

Vision Project Group, which is currently developing new headsets modeled after Apple's Vision Pro, is apparently considering a pair of smart glasses. A Bloomberg newsletter on Sunday claims the team is planning a 2027 launch.

Apple has often been rumored to be working on smart glasses, also called Apple Glass, but it's always been a distant prospect due to the technological limitations involved. Numerous rumors have suggested they're on the way, but that consumers may have a long wait.

Along with the glasses, which could be similar in concept to Meta鈥檚 Ray-Bans, the team also wants to release AirPods with cameras. These have also been rumored in the past, including the use of IR cameras that could help improve spatial audio by detecting the environment.

The eventual development and release of both devices could be a way for Apple to recoup the billions of dollars it has spent on visual intelligence technology. Mostly seen in the Apple Vision Pro, it scans the environment and collects data that can then be used to improve the user experience.

It鈥檚 likely that some of this technology could be borrowed from the long-running Apple Car project, which relied on object detection for its autonomous driving capabilities.

While the Vision Pro has this capability, the technology will spread to other products in the Apple ecosystem, including visual intelligence features on the iPhone as part of Apple Intelligence.
