Apple adds Battery Health menu to new iPad Air M2 and iPad Pro M4

It's been a while since iPhone users could check battery status information directly from the Settings app. However, this feature has never been available on iPad—until now. With the release of the new iPad Air M2 and iPad Pro M4, Apple has finally introduced the Battery Health menu in iPadOS.

New iPads have a Battery Health menu

As noted by iCulture, all new iPads released last week (M2 Air and M4 Pro) the “Battery Status” menu appeared for the first time. This means iPad owners can also check the maximum battery capacity without having to use third-party apps like CoconutBattery.

In fact, Apple has done more than just increase the maximum battery capacity. Like the iPhone 15 models, the new iPad Air M2 and iPad Pro M4 also provide an option to limit the maximum charge to 80% to extend internal battery life. As a result, the iPad automatically stops charging when the charge level reaches 80%.

There's a catch, however. None of this will be available on previous iPad models, even if you install the latest iPadOS update, version 17.5. So if you have an older iPad, you'll still have to use third-party apps to check your battery health, and you also won't have the option to limit the charge to 80%.

Of course, Apple may still change this in the future via a software update, but this seems unlikely given that only the latest iPhone models have all these capabilities.

The new M2 iPad Air and M4 iPad Pro are available to order on Apple's website, with an official launch scheduled on this environment.
