New report claims Apple's current schedule doesn't include Mac Pro updates and Mac Studio until mid-2025.

The latest updates to Mac Studio and Mac Pro were introduced at WWDC 2023, so the next update may have to wait a little longer. Bloomberg's Mark Gurman reports that two pro-level Macs will be released in 2024. If true, this would mean a two-year update cycle for Apple's current high-end computers.

The Apple M3 chip debuted in Pro and Max versions at the MacBook Pro event in October 2023. Other chips started with the basic version and worked their way up to Pro, Max and Ultra.

It took the M1 over a year to get the Ultra variant. The M1 Ultra debuted in the updated Mac Pro and then in the new Mac Studio.

Apple's M1 and M2 chips in the Mac Pro and Mac Studio had clear interconnects, so a chip like the Ultra was a clear possibility relatively early. The M3 doesn't have this obvious connection, so perhaps Apple always had this plan of action in mind.

This is also not the first time the Mac has skipped a generation. For example, the iMac went from an M1 processor to an M3 processor.

Relatively speaking, Apple doesn't sell many Mac Studio or Mac Pro devices. The company's flagships remain the MacBook Air and MacBook Pro lines — and it's not close.

No other new Macs are expected to be announced during WWDC, which runs from June 10 to 14. Most of the rest of the Mac lineup is expected to get M4 chips by the end of 2024.
