OLED HDR color highlighting bug on iPad Pro will be fixed with software update

iPad Pro uses tandem OLED for brighter output

Initial reviews of the new iPad Pro models have already arrived news about an OLED bug that causes some colors to appear incorrectly. A fix is on the way.

Apple has lifted the news embargo so that the first reviews of the 13-inch iPad Pro and 11-inch iPad Pro can be published. However, along with the good news came some bad news: a serious OLED bug has appeared.

According to iMore, which discovered the problem, certain HDR content causes colors to overexpose, which appear as spots or white streaks. This happens with certain shades of blue, such as navy or indigo.

Apple says this is a known issue and will be fixed soon. No timeline is provided and there is no mention of what version of the operating system was used on the test device — Most likely iPadOS 17.4.

It appears that there are no fixes in iPadOS 17.5, released earlier on Monday, at least not mentioned. The fix will likely appear in update 17.5.1 or similar.

Starting Wednesday, new iPad Pro models will be available to customers. Since the HDR issue is noticeable and may lead users to think their device is broken, expect a fix sooner rather than later.
