Modern Apple iPhones (and iPads and Macs) have fixed memory that is soldered to the motherboard. This means that customers typically need to purchase the required storage up front or expand it with external options. However, some cunning people have already decided how to update the iPhone memory after this. Watch this peaceful and impressive video of how this process works.
This process is not entirely new, we have seen it with some previous iPhone models. But the YouTube channel and KingSener recently shared an interesting video of detailed work on the iPhone 15 Pro, which has increased storage from 128 to 512 GB.
It's like a peaceful, quiet nature documentary, but for an iPhone mod 😅.
Here are the steps for an aftermarket upgrade (note: this is not a DIY project and has very high specifications). specialized tools):
- Removing the screen
- Removing the motherboard
- Removing and cleaning the original 128GB NAND memory using CNC and manual work
- Install a new 512GB NAND.
- Reinstall the motherboard.
- Remove any remaining waterproof adhesive.
- Reinstall the screen.
- Run DFU
