Provenance EMU

Retro gaming players will soon have more options for emulating older gaming consoles on the iPhone, and Provenance is committed to supporting systems from Sony and Sega, as well as Nintendo.

After the App Store rules changed to allow the submission of emulators, a gold rush of retro games began on the iPhone and iPad. While Delta's arrival has been welcomed by gamers, it limits the selection of games that can be played to only those made for Nintendo consoles.

The team at Provenance EMU, a multi-system emulator, is considering placing its own application on the App Store, iMore reports. Project lead Joseph Mattiello explained that the team is “working on release” and reviewing the rules Apple has changed to ensure the app is compliant.

Provenance emulates games, but does not emulate that is. for a wider range of systems than Delta can handle. When it comes to Nintendo games, Provenance extends support beyond the standard NES, SNES, Game Boy Color and Nintendo 64 to more unusual areas such as the Virtual Boy and Famicom Disk System.

More importantly, it also supports other platform families such as the Sega Master System, Genesis and Saturn, as well as the Sony PlayStation. The team also said that support for some new consoles is in the works, including the Sega Dreamcast and Sony PlayStation 2. Mattiello and his team have been working on Provenance since 2016. It is available to users. by sideloading apps or creating processes from the latter source that require an Apple developer account and are typically beyond what most iPhone users will do to install an app.

Since Apple opened up the App Store, removing restrictions on emulators, it has allowed emulator creators to distribute their tools through more traditional channels and to a wider audience.
