The Apple Watch Series 10 could offer a noticeable increase in battery life this year. A new supply chain report this week says the Apple Watch Series 10 will use new display technology that reduces power consumption and improves efficiency. In turn, this could improve battery life across the board.
The rumor comes from The Elec, which reports that the Apple Watch Series 10 will be Use an updated OLED display with low temperature thin film transistor (TFT) polycrystalline oxide (LTPO) technology.
Currently, the Apple Watch OLED screen uses LTPO TFT for only two switching transistors, while the rest use less efficient low-temperature polycrystalline silicon (LTPS) technology. The Elec reports that for the Apple Watch Series 10, the use of LTPO will be expanded to include more transistors:
LTPO TFT, which Apple plans to apply to the OLED display of the Apple Watch 10 series, is a method of depositing oxide on the control TFT and some switch TFTs, among 7-8 TFTs. The LTPO TFT that was applied to the Apple Watch used oxide for only the two switch TFTs, and LTPS for the rest of the switch TFT and control TFT.
Using oxide instead of LTPS for the TFT drive means that the oxide is responsible for the TFT that connects directly to the OLED pixel. LTPO OLED used oxide to reduce leakage current, but in the new LTPO OLED the role of oxide increases. Panel suppliers with strong oxide technology expertise may have an advantage.
If oxide is applied to some control TFTs and switching TFTs in the OLED displays of the Apple Watch 10 series, as Apple plans, LTPS will only be used for others. Switching TFT and circuits outside the pixel area. The role of LTPS is declining.

I'm very happy with the battery life of my Apple Watch Ultra, but in general, Apple Watch battery life can always be improved.
Battery life is also the main reason I wear the Apple Watch Ultra. If other Apple Watch models offer longer battery life, I'd at least consider upgrading to something a little smaller and lighter.
It remains to be seen whether the Apple Watch Series 10 actually delivers the extended battery life autonomous work. . It's possible that any performance improvements offered by the new display technology will simply be offset by other performance changes.
