X launches passkey support for iOS app users worldwide

Password for iPhone

Access Keys have launched for use by X globally, bringing a new level of account security to users of the social platform.

In January, X introduced support for password login. This feature uses technology developed by the FIDO Alliance in collaboration with major technology players such as Apple, Google and Microsoft.

Passwords on X were originally available exclusively to iOS users in the US, but are now available worldwide, as confirmed by the official X security account.

Access keys significantly reduce the risk of password compromise or hacking attempts. Access keys are encrypted and cannot be intercepted or stolen during transmission, ensuring reliable protection of personal information.

From X on Passkeys:

Pass Keys offer a more secure and convenient way to access your iOS devices and accounts. By using your biometrics with Face ID or Touch ID, passkeys eliminate the need to remember complex passwords. We believe in simplifying the login process without compromising security and giving you control over access to your account.
