A $3 third-party app can now record spatial video on iPhone 15 Pro models at a higher resolution than Apple's own Camera app.
Thanks to an update first spotted by UploadVR, Spatialify can now record HDR spatial videos in 1080p at 60fps or 4K at 30fps. By comparison, Apple's own Camera app is limited to recording 1080p spatial video at 30 frames per second.
Shortly after the Apple Vision Pro headset was released in the US in February, Apple released iOS 17.2, which introduced a new spatial video feature. recording format for iPhone 15 Pro models.
When viewed on iPhone, spatial videos look like regular videos, but when viewed on Vision Pro, they provide an immersive, almost 3D viewing experience on Vision Pro.
Combined with advanced computational videography techniques and HEVC compression, spatial videos shot at 30 fps in 1080p take up approximately 130 MB of storage space per minute of video, so keep this in mind when shooting with using Spatialify's higher resolution options. which will take up significantly more space.
Spatialify first made headlines back in November, before the launch of Apple Vision Pro, when a version of the TestFlight app became available. This allowed iPhone 15 Pro users running iOS 17.2 beta to record spatial video in a format that could be played on Meta Quest 3 and other 3D headsets and TVs.
Spatialify is available for download on the App Store. . The app costs $3 and requires an iPhone 15 Pro or iPhone 15 Pro Max to shoot spatial video.
