Leaked iPhone 16 case includes vertical camera bump on the back

Alleged cases for iPhone 16 [X/Sonny Dickson]

Rumour assessment   馃 Possible

Photo of cases intended for the iPhone 16 indicates at least one accessory maker is relying on rumors about the new vertical camera arrangement in the new models.

Various rumors are promoting the idea that Apple will make changes to the rear camera placement on the iPhone 16, switching from a diagonal placement inside a square bump to a vertical one. This change should mean that the overhang area will also be reduced by about half.

The photo, which Sonny Dixon shared via X on Friday morning, shows a pair of cases believed to be the “first cases” for the iPhone 16. Both cases are clear, have purple trim, and have oval cutouts for the camera bump.

If the bump on the cases is accurate, this would mean that the bump on the iPhone 16 itself will be even more rounded than before, rather than being a rounded square . .

In the housing design, to the right of the protrusion, approximately in the middle of the gap, there is a small round hole. This hole is theoretically intended for a flash.

Sonny Dixon is a well-known and fairly reliable source of information who has previously reported accurately on the iPhone and other devices. He also recently published a second case showing where a potential new button could be placed on the iPhone 16 Pro lineup.

However, there is no guarantee that the case will accurately represent the appearance of the iPhone 16. Accessory makers often rely on rumors and leaks to design and ultimately pre-produce cases and other items to capitalize on sales in launch day, and so at best it can be an educated guess by the product designer.
