iPadOS on iPad
Apple released iOS 17.4.1 and iPadOS 17.4.1 to the general public at the same time as updating VisionOS to version 1.1.1 and the abandonment of iOS 16.7.7.
A detailed update for all three operating systems: iOS 17.4.1, iPadOS 17.4.1 and VisionOS 1.1.1 is available for download on iPhone, iPad and Apple Vision Pro.
The update comes shortly after the release of iOS 17.4 and iPadOS 17.4, which appeared on March 5. Versions 17.4.1 also do not release any beta versions.
The new iOS and iPadOS releases are build number 21E236, replacing the previous build for 17.4 releases – 21E219. The latest VisionOS update to version 1.1.1 has build number 21O224.
It's unclear what exactly is new in the releases, but detailed updates usually mean bug fixes, performance improvements, and compatibility releases. In the case of iPadOS, this could also mean support for new iPad models.
The update notes displayed for manual updates mention that the updates contain “important bug fixes and security updates” and that they are “recommended for all users.” It also includes a link to detailed information about Apple's security releases.
The equivalent of iOS 17.4 and iPadOS included many changes, including elements that comply with the European DMA standard, such as support for third-party app stores. The rest of the world liked changes like the new post-quantum encryption for iMessage.
At the same time as updates to current generation operating systems, Apple also released updates for older versions. Updates for iOS 16.7.7 and iPadOS 16.7.7, build number 20H330.
Apple updates to previous operating systems are often created for reasons of compatibility, bug fixes, or security.
To manually update devices to iOS 17.4, go to Settings, General, then Software Update. Those who have automatic updates turned on will see it install over the next few days.
Users can also update VisionOS in Apple Vision Pro by opening Settings, then General, then Software Updates. Automatic updates can be enabled from the same area.
