Breaking News: iPhone web apps in EU, iOS 17.4.1 coming soon and more

Apple news and rumors have died down a bit this week with the launch of the M3 MacBook Air, but there was still plenty to talk about, including Apple's ongoing changes to comply with the EU Digital Markets Act and signs an upcoming iOS update will likely fix some errors.

Apple Announces Downloadable Apps for iPhone from EU websites

Apple announced this week that iPhone users in the EU will soon be able to download apps directly from their respective developer websites. Apple says web distribution will be available in a software update coming “later this spring” and most likely related to iOS 17.5.

Apple has already added support for alternative app stores on iPhone. in the EU with iOS 17.4, released earlier this month.

These changes are the result of the EU Digital Markets Act, which Apple strongly opposed but was reluctant to comply with.

Apple is preparing iOS 17.4.1 update for iPhone

Apple is conducting internal testing of iOS 17.4.1 for iPhone based on software update data in our website logs this week. It is unclear exactly when the update will be released to the general public.

Our logs showed the existence of several versions of iOS 17 before Apple released them, from iOS 17.0.3 to iOS 17.3. .1. iOS 17.4.1 should be a minor update that addresses software bugs and/or security vulnerabilities.
