Walmart starts selling MacBook Air with M1 chip for $699 in US

Walmart today announced that the MacBook Air with the M1 chip will be available in the US for a very reasonable price of $699. The laptop can now be ordered on Walmart.com and will soon be available in select Walmart stores.


For the first time, customers can purchase a Mac sold directly through Walmart, the company said in a press release. Some other retailers, such as Amazon and Best Buy, previously offered this model for just $749.99.

Apple first released the MacBook Air with the M1 chip in November 2020 as one of the first Macs with Apple silicon processor. chip instead of an Intel processor. The configuration, selling for $699, includes the M1 chip, 256GB of internal memory and 8GB of RAM/storage, and is available in Gold, Silver and Space Gray color options. Walmart's product listing states that the MacBook Air is in brand new condition, so it is not a used/refurbished model.

Earlier this month, Apple discontinued the MacBook Air with the M1 chip after launching the new MacBook Air. models with the latest generation M3 chip. Before being discontinued, the new model sold for $999. Apple continues to sell refurbished MacBook Air models with the M1 chip starting at $759.

Although the MacBook Air with the M1 chip is about three half years old, it's still very capable of handling many everyday tasks. However, it is an older design and has fewer years of macOS compatibility than the latest MacBook Air models, so these aspects should be considered when making your purchasing decision.
