Apple Acoustics Vice President Steps Down, AirPods and HomePod Audio Team Gets New Leadership

Apple's audio team will soon undergo leadership changes with the departure of longtime VP of Audio Gary Geaves, Bloomberg reports. Geeves is leaving his position, but will be replaced by “chief deputy” Ruchir Dave.


Acoustic The Apple group has about 300 members who have developed audio technologies for AirPods, HomePods and other Apple devices. The team was responsible for creating spatial audio, the 3D audio feature built into AirPods, Vision Pro and other devices.

AirPods designer Tan Tan oversaw the acoustics team led by John Ternus, but he began preparing to leave Apple back in December . Since then, the audio team has reported to Matt Costello, who oversees HomePod and Beats headphones.

Geeves joined Apple in 2011 from Bowers & Wilkins, and Bloomberg says he will remain at Apple as an adviser to Costello as he prepares to retire. Geaves has been working on updating the AirPods line for the past two years, with the first updates expected this year.

Rumors suggest we'll see AirPods 4 and new AirPods Max this year. , and updated AirPods Pro will appear in 2025.
