Apple takes first seven positions in global smartphone sales for the first time

Apple's iPhone once again dominates the list of the world's 10 best-selling smartphones, but this time it's in numbers for 2023 show it occupying all seven top positions.

Apple used to be more dominant in 2022, with eight iPhone models at the top of the chart. But this year, the Samsung Galaxy A13 took fourth place, so 2023 will be the first time Apple has maintained a continuous hold at the top of the chart.

Apple and Samsung's combined market share in 2023 was the highest ever, according to Counterpoint Research, which released its latest annual chart. The market share of these two companies reached 20% in 2023, up from 19% in 2022.

In 2023, iPhone 14 became the best-selling smartphone for the year, accounting for 19% of all iPhone sales. . This is noticeably less than the iPhone 13's share of 28% in 2022.

The iPhone 15 series ranked 5th, 6th and 7th for all of 2023. But Counterpoint says iPhone 15 models took the top three spots in the fourth quarter of 2023, with the iPhone 15 Pro leading the pack.

Apple's iPhone 13 retained the fourth position from 2022 due to what Counterpoint calls double annual growth, especially in Japan and India. Promotions from Japanese operators have reportedly boosted sales of the old model over the latter.

Overall, Counterpoint reports that Apple's overall sales are flat in 2023, despite sales declines among key competitors. Rising sales in India are said to have helped the iPhone 15 lineup to match the performance of the iPhone 14 models in 2022.

Counterpoint expects the 2024 schedule to feature Chinese brands and says only 5G smartphones will likely be on sale. top ten.

Separately, IDC reported that smartphone sales in China fell 5% between 2022 and 2023, but iPhone sales fell the least at 2.2%. Thanks to this, iPhone has become the best-selling smartphone in China.
