Apple loses veteran hardware executive to Rivian

Apple veteran DJ Novotny is leaving the company for a new role at Rivian, according to a report from Bloomberg. Novotny, vice president of hardware engineering, spent nearly 25 years at Apple and worked on several generations of iPods, iPhones, Apple Watches and other devices. His LinkedIn page has not yet been updated, but the photo shows him next to Rivian.

Novotney is the second Apple executive to join Rivian this month. Earlier this month, it was reported that Jonas Reinke, Apple's head of product, mobile and automotive services, had left Apple to join Rivian as vice president of product management.

Today's Bloomberg report said Novotny will become senior vice president of automotive programs at Rivian and will report directly to CEO RJ Scaringe. In a note announcing his departure on Friday, Novotny wrote:

“Great products are what we do best, and I I was very lucky with this. the opportunity to be part of the many amazing teams that have developed everything from the iPod, iPhone, iPad, Watch and more. “Apple has been my life, but now is the time for me to move on and help bring a new set of products to life.”

The report describes Novotny as “a top lieutenant for many of the company’s top development executives.” hardware.”

In addition to working on devices such as the iPod, iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch, Novotny also spent time working on Apple's electric vehicle team, Project Titan. Most recently, Novotny became “a senior executive responsible for the development of future home devices, including in the areas of robotics and artificial intelligence.” according to today's report.
