According to the company's CEO, Apple Vision Pro was deemed irrelevant for Netflix users, but “we'll see what happens next.” go.”
Netflix is among several popular apps not available in Apple Vision Pro. Others include YouTube and Spotify.
Netflix CEO Greg Peters was asked about this decision during an interview with Stratechery, and his response was expected. Simply put, the market for Apple Vision Pro is too small for the effort to be worth it.
“We have to be careful not to invest in places that aren't actually profitable, and I would say that we'll see where things go with the Vision Pro,” Peters responded. “Of course, we're always in talks with Apple to try to figure that out, but right now the device is so low-quality that it's not particularly relevant to most of our members.”
Apple could change Netflix's calculus if it had some incentive, and Netflix's CEO says such a path is possible.
“We've worked together for a long time, we've always had active discussions about how we can help each other,” Peters said of the incentives. “Sometimes we find a large area of overlap.”
An estimated 180,000 pre-orders for the Apple Vision Pro were made during the first weekend. This pales in comparison to the millions of smartphones, consoles and TVs on the market.
Apple's market share will grow, and consumer demand may push Netflix to create a dedicated app. Until then, the Netflix app works in the Safari browser on Apple Vision Pro.
