Rumor rating   🤔 Possible

A new leak suggests that Apple's only foldable product with a development and release schedule is the 20.3-inch MacBook, which will launch on mass market. production is planned for 2027.

Apple's first foldable device could be a MacBook instead of an iPad or iPhone. Save your jokes — We already know that the MacBook folds on hinges.

A post on X by Ming-Chi Kuo says that rumors that Apple will mass produce foldable iPhones or iPads by 2026 are untrue. Instead, the only foldable device Apple has planned for development is the 20.3-inch MacBook, due in 2027.

Kuo's message matches previous reports about Apple's foldable plans. In this case, the “folding” part of the MacBook is not the hinges, but the display itself.

Other source In response, Revegnus reported that it is in fact a foldable 20.25″ display. This display size was previously reported by The Elec in 2022 with a release window in 2027.

That report suggested that it will fold into a 15.3″ display. A device that is similar in size to existing MacBook displays. The top half will be the display, while the bottom half could display a soft keyboard or other content.

Rumor has it that The timeline has since shifted and another Elec has emerged. The report says that the foldable gadget could arrive as early as 2025, and Ross Young has confirmed this.

Something is happening with Apple's foldable device development, as in another The report states that Samsung has reorganized its organization to prioritize improving technology for Apple's foldable devices.

Ming-Chi Kuo usually uses placeholder names when describing future products. The foldable 20.3-inch display can't be called a MacBook at all. It could even be classified as an iPad if it had a touch surface.

This rumor is believed to be possible due to Ming-Chi Kuo's precision in handling the supply chain.

Time will tell if any of these rumors come true, but where there is smoke, there is fire. Apple is clearly working on folding technology, but what form it will take and when it will take is still up in the air.
