Today, Elevation Lab announced the launch of TimeCapsule, an innovative and simple solution to extend the battery life of Apple's AirTag.
Priced at $20, TimeCapsule is an AirTag case that houses two AA batteries, providing 14 times the battery life of the CR2032 battery that powers the AirTag. It works by attaching the top case of the AirTag to the to a built-in user contact in the TimeCapsule that provides power in place of a coin battery.
The case then screws down and can be hidden in a car, luggage, camera bag, or other expensive item. The case has an IP69 waterproof rating, which is able to withstand water and dust in harsh conditions, so it can be used outdoors.
The TimeCapsule does add extra weight and size to the AirTag since it needs to accommodate AA batteries, but it is still thin enough to fit well in bags without adding too much bulk. The unit measures 4.45 inches by 1.57 inches and is 0.75 inches thick. However, the case is unremarkable, so if something containing a TimeCapsule is stolen, the thief is unlikely to know what it is.
The TimeCapsule can be purchased for $20 on the Elevation Lab website or on Amazon.
