X launches passcode support for iPhone users worldwide

Tim Hardwick

X, formerly known as Twitter, has expanded support for passwords as a login method for iPhone users worldwide, the company announced.

Password support was introduced by Company X earlier this year, but the feature was only available to US iOS users. Now they can be used by anyone on the social network.

Passwords are easier to use and more secure than passwords because they allow users to sign into apps and sites the same way they unlock their devices: with Face ID . , Touch ID or device passcode. Passkeys are also resistant to online attacks like phishing, making them more secure than things like one-time SMS codes.

Apple integrated passkeys into iOS in 2022 with the release of iOS 16, and they are also available in iPadOS 16.1 and later, and macOS Ventura and later.

To set up passkeys in X on ‌iPhone‌, follow these steps:

  1. Sign in to the X app.
  2. Click Your Account in the navigation bar.
  3. Select Settings & Privacy, then Click Security and Account Access, then Security.
  4. In the Advanced Password Protection section, click Password.
  5. Enter your password when prompted.
  6. Select Add a passkey and follow the instructions.

X is just one of several companies to implement passkey support in recent months, along with other supporting apps and websites including Google, PayPal , Best Buy, eBay, Dashlane and Microsoft.
