X Announces Major Price Increase for Ad-Free Premium Plus Subscription

Tim Hardwick

X (Twitter) has announced a significant price hike for its Premium Plus subscription tier, with monthly rates in the US jumping from $16 to $22, a 37.5% increase. The annual subscription price will also increase from $168 to $229.

The price changes take effect on December 21, 2024, and new subscribers will pay the higher rates immediately. Existing Premium Plus subscribers will keep their current prices until January 20, 2025, after which the new rates will apply in their next billing cycle.

The price increases vary significantly by region, with some markets seeing particularly sharp increases. In Nigeria, the monthly subscription price has increased by more than 365%, while Turkish users have seen a 156% increase. European subscribers will see their monthly rates increase from €16 to €21, while Australian users will have to pay AU$35, up from AU$26. A full list of the new prices by country is available here.

X justified the price increase by highlighting several Premium Plus features, including a completely ad-free experience and expanded access to the capabilities of the Grok AI platform. The company also emphasized that the higher subscription fee will support its creator revenue sharing program, which now focuses on rewarding content quality and engagement rather than ad views.

X’s base subscription tier remains unchanged at $3 per month. This is the biggest price increase for US subscribers to Premium Plus since Elon Musk acquired the platform in 2022.
