WhatsApp rolls out chat filters to help find conversations faster

WhatsApp is rolling out new chat filters that make it easier to find the messages you want and reduce the need to scroll through your inbox.

The following three new filters appear at the top of the app's main conversation list: All, Unread, and Groups. In a blog post, WhatsApp describes them as follows:

  • All: The default view of all your messages.
  • Unread: Ideal if you want to see which conversations you need to listen to or respond to. It shows messages you have marked as unread or not yet opened so you can prioritize replies.
  • Groups: A highly requested feature, now all your group chats will be organized in one place, making it easier to find your loved ones, whether it's discussing the weekly family dinner or planning your next vacation. Subgroups of communities will also be shown.

WhatsApp says that the Chat Filters feature is already being rolled out and will be available to everyone on iOS and Android in the coming weeks.

According to WABetaInfo, WhatsApp is also developing a feature that will allow users to pin their favorite channels to the top of the channel list on the Updates screen, similar to how you can pin chats in the chat list. Initially, users will be able to pin a maximum of three channels, but WhatsApp has also tested up to five. Currently, this feature is only available to WhatsApp beta users.
