WhatsApp has been internally testing passkey support in its iPhone app for some time. However, this option was still not available for most users. But now the situation seems to be changing as Meta is gradually introducing a password option for WhatsApp users on iPhone with the latest version of the app.
WhatsApp users on iPhone can now enable passkey
As noted by Engadget, Meta has now confirmed that users iPhones will also have the option to enable a passkey to protect their WhatsApp account. This feature was first introduced for Android users in October last year. According to Mehta, this feature should be available to all WhatsApp users in the coming weeks.
“Verifying your password will make logging into WhatsApp easier and more secure. We're excited to launch this on WhatsApp and provide users with an additional layer of security,” Alice Newton-Rex, Head of Product at WhatsApp, said in a statement.
To enable a password on your WhatsApp account, follow the instructions. following steps:
- Open WhatsApp
- Go to Settings
- Tap Account
- Select Passwords
- Click Create Password
- Confirm with Face ID or Touch ID

Passkey is a technology developed by the FIDO Alliance in collaboration with large companies such as Apple, Google and Microsoft. Instead of traditional passwords, it allows users to sign in using secure methods such as facial recognition or biometrics, eliminating the need to create and enter a passcode.
