What to watch on Apple TV+ in April: Colin Farrell's new detective drama, Michael Douglas as Benjamin Franklin and more

There will be a lot of interesting things on Apple TV+ in April. From crime dramas to historical fiction, political documentaries and more, here's what to watch on Apple's streaming service this month.

Apple enters spring season with a lot of original shows. Current series on Apple TV+ that have been moved up from previous months include New Look, Palm Royale and The Hunt. But what's new this month?

The second season of the comedy series “Loot” is coming out first. Maya Rudolph plays Molly Novak, the divorced wife of a tech company CEO who inherits $87 billion. The question is how does she spend it? The second season follows Molly as she creates her own charitable foundation. Season two of Loot kicks off on April 3rd with the first two episodes.

The new feature documentary Girls State will begin airing this Friday, April 5th. From the same writers who created the award-winning Boys State, Girls. The state brings a woman's perspective to the false government. The film follows a group of teenage girls from across Missouri as they participate in an experiment in youth democracy.

The new mystery drama “Sugar” will be shown on the same day. Colin Farrell plays private investigator John Sugar. With all the details of a classic noir, Sugar becomes immersed in the mysterious disappearance of Olivia Siegel, the daughter of a famous Hollywood producer. The first two episodes of “Sugar” premiere on April 5, with a new episode airing every Friday through May 17.

Michael Douglas' period drama “Franklin” debuts next week. The action takes place in 1776. Franklin conducts his revolutionary electrical experiments. The limited series follows Franklin's journey to France as he tries to rally support for American independence. Catch the first three episodes of Franklin on April 12.

Finally, for an Apple original in April, The Big Door Prize returns for its second season on April 24. In the series, a mysterious machine predicts the fate of the residents of a small town. Chaos ensues as people react to their love life prophecies.
