Turn a live photo into a boomerang

Tim Hardwick

Most iPhone users are familiar with Apple's Live Photos feature, which captures 1.5-second video before and after a photo is taken to add a little life and movement to still images. Some users may not know that you can also make a Live Photo bounce back and forth like a boomerang.

If you are familiar with Instagram, then you probably know what a boomerang is. Since the advent of ‌Live Photos‌ In 2015, Apple added several effects to its Photos app that let you turn them into fun animated clips, and the Bounce effect is essentially the same thing as a boomerang. He rewinds the action back and forth. Here's how to create your own on your ‌iPhone‌.

  1. Open ‌Photos‌ app and select Live Photo. (If you look at the Media Types section under Albums, you'll find all your ‌Live Photos‌ collected in a folder of the same name.)
  2. With a Live Photo open, tap the LIVE in the upper left corner of the interface.
  3. From the drop-down menu that appears, select Bounce. .

The effect you choose will be applied immediately, and you can share it using the Share icon in the bottom left corner of the screen. Please note that in ‌Photos‌ There are two other effects you can try: Loop repeats the action in a continuous looping video, and Long Exposure simulates a DSLR-like long exposure effect by blurring the motion.

Done, you know that if you get blurry Live Photo image, you can open it and see if other footage you've taken is clearer, and then choose a replacement “key photo” for it. Click on the link to learn how it's done.
