These Are the Most Downloaded iPhone Apps in the App Store This Year

Apple has released a list of the most downloaded apps and games on the App Store in 2024. The top charts are localized for many parts of the world, so you can see the most popular downloads in your country. Here are the best apps and games of the year.

Apple reveals the best apps and games of 2024 for iPhone and iPad

The App Store on iPhone and iPad now has a new story in the Today tab.

The story is called “Get the best US apps of 2024” (it will differ depending on where you are).

Apple explains:

As 2024 comes to a close, Apple is excited to highlight the most downloaded apps and games of the year across iPhone, iPad, and Apple Arcade, with a chart localized for users in more than 30 countries and regions. Now available in the Today tab in the App Store, the year-end charts feature the best free and paid apps and games, as well as the best Apple Arcade games. Users can also learn about the 2024 App Store Award winners, 17 exceptional apps and games chosen by App Store editors that have helped users unleash their creativity, reach new heights, and cherish everyday moments with family and friends across the App Store and Apple ecosystem.

It doesn't explicitly say that the lists are organized from most downloaded to least, but that appears to be the case. As a result, the best free apps of the year in the US were:

Free apps and games continue to dominate App Store downloads by far. This is clear when looking at the paid app and game lists, which are mostly comprised of older titles. There isn't much activity in the paid app category.

However, looking at the free tops especially provides an interesting look at changing trends and the winners and losers of 2024.
