Apple has had a busy fall, with a big event in September, the iPad mini 7 launch in mid-October, and an “exciting week of announcements” at the end of the month.
With all those new product announcements, there have also been a number of older products being discontinued, meaning they are no longer available for purchase in the Apple Store. However, you can still find great deals on the latest generation of products from third-party manufacturers.
#1 – iPad mini 6
In October, Apple introduced a new iPad mini with Apple Intelligence, Apple Pencil Pro compatibility, and a fix for the jelly scrolling issue that plagued the iPad mini 6. It's a relatively small update, but it was much needed after three years of waiting.
There's really no reason to want an older-generation iPad mini, but if you don't care about Apple Intelligence, you can get the latest-generation model for $349 with 64GB of storage.
#2 – FineWoven iPhone Cases
Apple debuted its highly controversial FineWoven cases with the iPhone 15 last year as an “eco-friendly” replacement for leather. It was supposed to be a premium material, but it fell far short of expectations. The cases scratched too easily and ultimately failed to live up to expectations as a premium product.
Apple seems to have acknowledged this, and FineWoven iPhone cases are no longer available for the iPhone 16 models. They have, however, kept the FineWoven MagSafe wallets and Apple Watch bands. If you’re looking to pick up a FineWoven case for your iPhone 15, Amazon has plenty of deals, including this one for the iPhone 15 Pro for just $21.
#3 – M3 MacBook Pro
Late last month, Apple unveiled the new M4 MacBook Pro, featuring the M4, M4 Pro, and M4 Max chipsets, an upgrade to Thunderbolt 5 on higher-end models, much-needed RAM upgrades, Center Stage support, and the ability to customize your Mac with a nano-texture display.
There are some great deals on the M3 MacBook Pro, including this deal at Best Buy — where you can get the base model for $1,199 — a great price for a 14-inch MacBook Pro considering the quality of the display.
#4 — M2 Mac mini
Apple unveiled its biggest redesign of the Mac mini earlier this month, making it significantly smaller than the previous model, with front-facing I/O, and the M4/M4 Pro chipsets. The design also bumped up the RAM, with the M4 coming with 16GB by default and the M4 Pro with 24GB by default. It’s also Apple’s most powerful desktop Mac yet.
There aren’t really any deals of note on the outgoing Mac mini, but you shouldn’t buy it anyway given the size of the redesign. You can buy the M4 Mac mini for $499 on Amazon by clipping the coupon on the page. The outgoing model is currently available for $469, but you shouldn’t buy it since you also get half the RAM.
#5 – M3 iMac
The iMac also got a refresh last month, moving from the M3 to the M4, adding support for additional Thunderbolt ports, and gaining the same Center Stage capabilities as the MacBook Pro. Plus, it now comes with 16GB of RAM by default — all for the same $1,299 starting price. It also got a new color option.
There aren't any deals on the outgoing M3 iMac right now, either, but you can save $150 on the current model by clipping the coupon on the page, making it $1,149 on Amazon.
#6 and 7 — iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max
As per tradition since 2018, with the release of the iPhone XS, Apple once again discontinued the previous generation of flagship iPhones, meaning the iPhone 15 Pro models were discontinued after the introduction of the iPhone 16 Pro models. However, there is certainly a unique reason to buy a refurbished 15 Pro, as it is one of the few iPhones that supports Apple Intelligence.
You can currently get a refurbished premium iPhone 15 Pro 128GB for $719, and a refurbished premium iPhone 15 Pro Max 256GB for $894. Amazon Renewed Premium devices have a 1-year return policy, so you are covered if something happens.
#8 – iPhone 13
Apple introduced the iPhone 13 in 2021 with a number of upgrades, including longer battery life, a new camera system, and a smaller notch. It started at $799 and received several price cuts over the years, reaching a low of $599 before it was discontinued.
While Amazon doesn't actually sell new iPhones in the US, you can find refurbished deals starting at $370 for an unlocked iPhone 13 in mint condition.
#9, 10, and 11 – Lightning Magic Accessories
With the new Mac update this fall, Apple moved the Magic Mouse, Magic Trackpad, and Magic Keyboard to USB-C, discontinuing all Lightning versions.
There are a few deals on the Lightning versions of these accessories, though I wouldn't recommend buying the Lightning version of an accessory you're likely to use for quite some time. However, the Magic Mouse with Lightning is currently discounted by $12, and the Magic Trackpad with Lightning is currently discounted by about $20.
#12 – Apple Watch Series 9
After releasing the thinner Apple Watch Series 10, Apple discontinued the older Apple Watch Series 9, likely because the Series 10 kept the same starting price and there just isn't much room for a watch on the price scale between the SE and Series 10.
There are a few deals on the Apple Watch Series 9, including this one for $299, but I wouldn't buy it given the fact that you can currently buy the Series 10 for just $329.
#13, 14, and 15 – The remaining AirPods Lightning
With the release of the AirPods 4 and the USB-C AirPods Max, Apple replaced all remaining AirPods with a Lightning port, including the AirPods 2, AirPods 3, and AirPods Max (Lightning). Apple introduced two AirPods 4 variants at different prices: one with noise cancellation and one without.
I wouldn’t buy the AirPods 2 or AirPods 3 personally, as the AirPods 4 are such a great deal. You can buy the base version for $119 or the noise-canceling version for $168. I'd also consider the USB-C AirPods Pro 2 if you're interested in noise cancellation, which are currently available for $169.
There are also some good deals on the AirPods Max (Lightning) sale, which are available for just $399.
While the latest tech is always flashy and enticing, it's always worth considering deals on recently discontinued items, at least in my opinion.
