The next iOS 18.1 beta could add a new toggle to Control Center

While Apple for some reason didn't release iOS 18.1 beta 6 this week, they did release new betas of watchOS, tvOS, and visionOS, which can sometimes give clues about Apple's plans for other platforms.

According to code changes discovered by Aaron Parris in X, Apple plans to add a special module to toggle satellite connectivity on the iPhone 14 or later. Previously, you could only toggle satellite connectivity from within the unified connection module in Control Center, but with iOS 18.1 beta 6, you should be able to toggle it manually.

With iOS 18.1 beta 5, Apple added dedicated Control Center toggles for Wi-Fi and VPN connectivity. This satellite connectivity toggle will join them in beta 6.

It's currently unclear why Apple skipped iOS 18.1 beta 6 this week. The delay could have been due to a last-minute bug, or the company could have been preparing a release candidate instead. iOS 18.1 is likely to be released in mid-October.

Apple has released updates that have caused three freezes or crashes on devices in the past few weeks, so delaying iOS 18.1 beta 6 may be a good idea.
