The new iPad Pro performed well in the extreme bend test, outperforming the previous generation

The new iPad Pro is here and the inevitable YouTube stress tests are online. JerryRigEverything and AppleTrack have posted videos of bending tests, and both seem to come to the same conclusion: the new iPad Pro holds up well under extreme stress and seems pretty resistant to bending during normal use.

AppleTrack echoed those The same curves with the iPad Pro M2 and the new iPad Pro M4 for comparison, and while the iPad Pro M4 remained largely unscathed, the iPad Pro M2 had a sharp curve in the corner near the cameras. JerryRigEverything praised the device for its “black magic level of structural integrity,” at least when held horizontally.

The device flexed much more easily under vertical bending, likely due to the counter-axis force of the new internal reinforcement structure and the weakness of the openings for the charging ports at the bottom.

Whereas the iPad flexes at almost any force, the tablet returns to its normal form under almost any normal circumstances. To achieve consistent bending, testers required forces far beyond what would be expected in normal everyday life.

And perhaps even more impressively, even after being subjected to extreme forces, all iPads continued to function, including cameras and touchscreen responsiveness, albeit with a very bent and broken glass surface.

At least based on these initial data. impressions, it looks like we won't have a repeat of #BendGate from 2018. This controversy arose when the new 2018 iPad Pro form factor came out and some customers found the devices to bend even with normal use, sometimes bending right out of the box.

Later versions, including the latest 2024 generation, do not actually exhibit the same symptoms. However, you should still be wary if you put your iPad in a bag, such as under a lot of heavy books.
