LG plans to begin mass production of display panels for the 20.2-inch or 18.8-inch foldable MacBook in the fourth quarter of 2025, according to information provided today by Apple supply chain analyst Ming-Chi Kuo.

In a post on Medium, Kuo said Apple is committed to making a foldable screen “as possible without folds”, which will require the use of expensive components. As a result, he says, a foldable MacBook could cost almost as much as Apple's Vision Pro headset, which starts at $3,499. The 16-inch MacBook Pro currently starts at $2,499.

Kuo estimates that foldable MacBook shipments will top one million units in 2026, assuming the device will be available in about two years.

He expects the device to be powered by Apple's yet-to-be-announced next-generation M5 processor.

Kuo is one of three sources mentioning the 20-inch MacBook, along with a display industry analyst Ross Young. and the Korean site The Elec. However, there is no guarantee that the device will make it beyond the prototyping stage.
