As we reported last week, Threads has begun rolling out custom feeds based on specific topics globally. And Meta seems to be really listening to users lately, as the company is now testing an option to let users choose which feed they want to see by default.
Threads Will Have the Option to Choose a Default Feed
Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg shared the news in a post on Threads. He said the platform is now “testing” the ability to choose any feed as the default. This includes not only choosing between For You and Following, but also Custom. This means users will be able to choose which feed they see first when they open Threads.
“We’re testing the ability to choose any feed — For You, Following, or Custom — as the default. We’re also making it more visible in the app. It’ll be interesting to see how people use it,” Zuckerberg said.
Currently, the Threads app opens by default to the For Your feed. This is a feed of suggested content based on algorithms. Most recently, Instagram CEO Adam Mosseri announced that Meta is changing Threads' algorithms to prioritize posts from accounts a user follows — another long-standing request from Threads users.
Users can swipe down on the main Threads screen to access the Following feed, which, as the name suggests, only shows posts from accounts you follow. The same goes for Custom Feeds — but the app always reverts to the For You feed after closing and reopening.
Many users have noticed that Meta has been ramping up development of new features for Threads lately. While the company hasn’t said anything, some believe this is due to Bluesky’s rapid growth in recent months. While Threads still has far more users than Bluesky, its rival platform has attracted more than 13 million users in a year.
There are no details on which users will get access to the new features first or when Meta plans to make them available to everyone. Either way, make sure you’re running the latest version of the app to get access to the new features. The Threads app is available for free in the App Store.
