Since its launch on iOS, Gemini has been part of the Google (Search) app. That's about to change, as at least one iPhone user spotted a separate “Google Gemini” app in the App Store today that also lets you access Gemini Live.
With this standalone app, you get a Gemini icon on your home screen that says, “Discover the power of Google’s AI on your iPhone.” Since launch, you’ve had to open the Google app and switch to the “Gemini” tab at the top. Alternatively, the Google app’s home screen widget was updated in September with customizable shortcuts that let you directly access Gemini with a single tap.
The listing for “Google Gemini” shows the ability to access Gemini Live. This isn’t yet available in the Google app, and one user who downloaded the app demonstrated the voice interface in action. Gemini uses Live Activity to stay active while you continue to use your phone.

There’s only one report so far of this app being downloadable for a user in the Philippines. The App Store listing is not loading in the US (“This app is currently unavailable in your country or region”) as Google is apparently testing in a few countries before a wider launch.
In terms of functionality, Gemini on iPhone via the Google app is currently on par with gemini.google.com. However, Google has not updated the user interface to match the Android interface. Hopefully, this standalone app will allow Google to deliver updates faster. As a reminder, Google Assistant is a native app on Apple's platform.
