PSA: iOS 18.2 beta is currently only available on AI-enabled iPhones

Apple has released the first beta for iOS 18.2, which includes powerful new Apple Intelligence features like Genmoji, ChatGPT integration, and more. But before you head into the Settings app, there’s one important limitation to know: the beta is currently limited to AI-compatible iPhones.

Only six iPhone models can currently run iOS 18.2

Apple Intelligence is only available on some of the most recent iPhone models.

There are six models supported in total:

  • iPhone 16
  • iPhone 16 Plus
  • iPhone 16 Pro
  • iPhone 16 Pro Max
  • iPhone 15 Pro
  • iPhone 15 Pro Max

The iOS 18.2 beta is currently only available for these six devices.

Apple is expected to release a future beta at a later date that will extend the release to older iPhones. Although even then, key Apple Intelligence updates won't be included.

If you have a compatible iPhone, you can install the iOS 18.2 beta with a developer account by going to Settings, then General, and then Software Update.

The same principle is true for iPadOS 18.2 and macOS Sequoia 15.2. Their beta releases are currently limited to AI-compatible iPads and Macs, meaning devices with an M1 chip or newer, as well as the new iPad mini A17.

Have you installed the iOS 18.2 beta?
