Proton VPN Comes to Apple TV to Help Expand Your Streaming Library

With the release of tvOS 17 last year, Apple added built-in VPN support to the Apple TV. Over the past few months, we've seen several popular VPN services make their way to the Apple TV.

Now Proton VPN is joining the fun and has officially launched its first app for the Apple TV. Proton VPN is now also available on the Apple Vision Pro.

In a blog post, Proton explains:

Today, we’re excited to introduce the Proton VPN app for Apple TV. One of the most requested features from our community is the app, which allows you to easily and securely watch your favorite shows, movies, and sporting events on your big screen TV via Apple TV, no matter where you are. The Apple TV app is available to anyone with a paid Proton VPN plan.

Proton VPN offers 6,200 servers in 100 countries, and the Apple TV app lets you choose from them all.

Proton VPN is available for download from the App Store, including new versions for Apple TV and Vision Pro.

You can sign up for Proton VPN on the company’s website and save 55% on a biennial plan or 50% on an annual plan.

Why Use a VPN on Apple TV?

There are a few different reasons why you might want to use a VPN on Apple for the first time. First, all the usual privacy benefits of using a VPN also apply to Apple TV. However, perhaps more notable is that using a VPN on Apple TV can greatly expand the content you can watch.

Streaming services often limit certain content to certain geographic regions due to licensing agreements and other arrangements. For example, the catalog of content available on Netflix in the United States is very different from the catalog of Netflix available in other countries.

Thanks to tvOS 17, using a VPN on Apple TV is as easy as it is on iPhone, iPad, and Mac. All you need to do is download a compatible VPN app from the App Store, like Proton VPN, and select your location.
