Poll: Could some Apple AI features be announced during the iPad launch?

We'll obviously see some exciting new Apple AI features this year, and the company's usual way of announcing major new iOS features is to preview them at WWDC and then launch in September along with the new iPhone lineup.

But there could be a few reasons for this, hoping to preview these new features on the new iPad Pro during the Let Loose Apple 7 event May …

Argument against

But before we get to that, we need to start with the biggest argument against it, namely precedent. Apple has taken a very consistent approach to major new developments:

  • We get our first look at future iOS features at the WWDC keynote.
  • These features come first to the iPhone, sometimes requiring new hardware
  • Then they move to iPad

Changing all of this would be a very big departure indeed.

The Argument for

But there are several reasons why that could change this year.

First, Mark Gurman suggested that the new iPad Pro models may get the M4 chip before the Mac. This in itself would be an eye-opener, raising the question: “Why do they need this?” The iPad's capabilities have long been limited more by software than hardware.

Artificial intelligence features would be a good answer to this question, but it would create a dilemma: How will Apple sell the capabilities of the iPad? chip in a meaningful way, without reference to AI? Logically, this would explain that it brings advanced artificial intelligence capabilities to the device – and that would mean saying something about them.

Second, Apple describes its May 7 keynote as “an event of another kind.” .”

Of course, this may not be a big deal. This could mean the new iPad Pro models will get some new camera capabilities, and Apple says the event was filmed entirely on the iPad – just as the iPhone 15 launch was filmed entirely on the device. Or maybe it can be viewed as an immersive video on the Vision Pro.

But could it be that this time Apple is using the May event to preview some upcoming new AI features? This will provide a very compelling reason to upgrade to the shiny new iPad, and will also create anticipation for a much broader and deeper dive into WWDC – and could even serve as early excitement for the iPhone 16 lineup.

Could Apple even launch some of the these AI features on iPad before iPhone? It would be more difficult, but some believe it is possible.
