Pencil Pro has a bit of Apple UI magic.

As of yesterday's launch, the Apple Pencil Pro is getting into the hands of users, and with it comes revelations about some of the finer details of the new product .

One particularly notable example comes from Quinn Nelson, who discovered that Apple had added a huge dose of UI magic to the Pencil Pro interface when using the new M4 iPad Pro.

Apple Shows off digital shadows

When Apple first introduced the Pencil Pro, it highlighted some major new features. There is a new sensor that makes it possible to squeeze the pencil to bring up a context menu designed to switch tools. You can also rotate it to make marks with greater precision, thanks to the built-in gyroscope.

What Apple didn't highlight that Nelson discovered was the presence of a digital pencil shadow created by Apple. in iPadOS. Watch the video below.

The ability to hover over the iPad Pro and see the shadow of the tool you're using is completely unnecessary, but also surprisingly cool.

Apple is pitching the iPad as a creative tool that can replace many traditional creative tools. Small UI touches like these, while they may go unnoticed by many users, nevertheless help bring iPad and Apple Pencil closer to replicating the feel of a physical pen and paper. This is definitely a good thing.
