OLED iPad Pro price hike may be lower than early reports suggested

Tim Hardwick

Apple's price hike for future iPad Pro models with OLED displays could be up to $160, which is significantly lower than early reports predicted, DigiTimes claims.

Apple's current 11-inch iPad Pro starts at $799, and 12.9 -inch model with mini-LED display starts at $1,099. Previous reports have claimed that the next-gen 11-inch ‌OLED ‌iPad‌ Pro‌ could start at $1,500, while the 13-inch model could start at $1,800.

One report even mentioned a price of up to $2,000 for larger model, although this may refer to the higher level of memory available on the 13-inch model.

DigiTimes doesn't cite a source for the $160 price increase figure, but if it's accurate or at least roughly correct, This will keep the starting price of Apple's 11-inch OLED iPad Pro under $1,000, while the 13-inch variant will cost between $1,200 and $1,300.

The cost increase is due to OLED panels, which Apple has not previously used this technology in the iPad. OLED panels are more expensive to produce than LCD panels, and Apple's special requirements for screens, such as very thin designs using tandem construction, contribute to the higher cost of these OLED panels compared to other panels on the market.

On the other hand, OLED technology not only increases the lifespan and efficiency of the display, but also allows for higher brightness levels. Apple sources these OLED panels from Samsung and LG Display, which are rumored to be developing these special two-tier tandem OLED panels just for Apple.

The new iPad Pro models are expected to feature Apple's latest processors. M3 chips. MagSafe charging is possible for future devices, and they will also likely be accompanied by an updated version of the Magic Keyboard with a larger trackpad, making the iPad Pro‌ feel more like a laptop than current models.

The new ‌iPad models are expected to The Air‌ and ‌‌iPad Pro‌‌ and related accessories will go on sale around the end of March. To find out everything we know about the upcoming iPad Pro models, be sure to check out our dedicated review.
