The age of streaming has certainly changed the way we listen to music. There are curated playlists, algorithms, and a host of other factors. With that in mind, the developers of NowPlaying are now launching an Apple TV app that aims to encourage people to listen to entire albums, just like the good old days.
NowPlaying Focuses on Album Discovery
NowPlaying isn't exactly a new app. It helps you discover the stories behind the songs and albums you listen to. You can see at a glance when an album was released, its chart ranking, and even how many versions of the album were released. All in a very nice interface.
“While playlists and algorithms have their place, they have fundamentally changed the way we consume music. NowPlaying for Apple TV takes a bold stance by focusing solely on albums, encouraging listeners to explore music as complete works rather than individual tracks,” the developers say. “This approach isn’t just about nostalgia — it’s about experiencing music the way the artists intended.”
The Apple TV app is made up of three key experiences. With Today’s Album, you can discover a new album hand-picked by music lovers, including classics, new releases, and influential works. Random Discoveries suggests an album based on your listening history, the Rolling Stone 500 Greatest Songs list, or previously featured albums. And, of course, Current Playing shows you all the details about the album playing on your Apple TV.
Users can also search for albums directly in NowPlaying without leaving the app. The app connects to Apple Music, allowing users to save or play albums directly within NowPlaying.
Try it now
You can try NowPlaying for free. However, you can choose to either pay for a subscription or buy a one-time license to remove ads. The app is available on the App Store and works with iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple TV, Apple Watch, and Vision Pro.
