Now on Apple TV+, Steve Martin's life and career are featured in a new documentary, unusually split into two feature-length parts … ;
The documentary is produced by Apple Original Films and A24 and directed by Morgan Neville.
It's billed as a film project, but it's actually split into two parts called “Then”; and now”. Each part lasts about an hour and a half.
Then details Steve Martin's rise to fame, including his early failures in comedy, ending with his decision to leave stand-up comedy at just 35 years old. “Then” relies heavily on archival footage in a typical documentary style.
‘Now’ he has more talent, with a conversational sensibility that belies Martin's current success in his acting career, aided by informal conversations with the man himself. It includes interviews with Only Murders in the Building magazine; co-star Martin Short, comedian Jerry Seinfeld, Tina Fey and others.
