macOS Sequoia 15.1 RC Now Available, Launching Next Week [U]

Apple has released macOS Sequoia 15.1 RC to both developers and public beta users. This is the last expected beta before the public launch next week. Here's what to expect.

Update 10.24.24: Apple has released the second RC of macOS 15.1. Includes build number 24B83.

New Features in macOS 15.1

macOS Sequoia 15.1 is the first major update for Mac users since Sequoia debuted last month.

The highlight of the release is the first wave of Apple Intelligence features. Here are a few examples of what's coming:

  • intelligent notification summaries
  • system-wide AI-powered writing tools
  • new Siri features
  • mail summaries and priority messages
  • item removal in the Photos app
  • vastly improved search in Photos
  • and more

Another big feature coming to macOS Sequoia 15.1 and iOS 18.1 is an update to the iPhone Mirroring feature that arrived last month.

iPhone Mirroring now supports dragging and dropping photos and files between devices. Think of it as a new, faster way to transfer files.

So just like you drag a file to your desktop or a folder, you can drag it to your mirrored iPhone to start transferring the file. For some users, this will be the new best way to move files between devices.

What to Know About RC Betas

Apple's macOS Sequoia 15.1 RC beta stands for “release candidate.” This is the release that the company expects and hopes to release publicly to all users.

Sometimes a critical bug is discovered after a release, and Apple needs to release a fixed RC version. But in most cases, the RC version is the same one that was released publicly to all users.

Don't expect any new features or user-facing changes in today's beta. Instead, it should simply deliver the smoothest, most bug-free version of macOS 15.1 released so far ahead of the public launch.

Have you installed macOS 15.1 RC? Have you noticed any changes? Let us know in the comments.
