LG has updated its Apple Music app to support Dolby Atmos, becoming the first smart TV maker to do so (via FlatpanelsHD).
This change allows users to experience immersive audio that enhances the spatial audio experience previously only achievable with external equipment. The feature has been confirmed to work on LG GX OLED TVs starting with the 2020 lineup, and is expected to work on all Dolby Atmos-compatible LG TVs starting in 2020.
Although built-in TV feature If speakers can take advantage of this new capability, LG suggests that the best sound quality is achieved with a compatible surround sound system that can more effectively take advantage of Dolby Atmos technology.
Update Apple Music The app on LG TVs eliminates the need for additional Apple hardware. Before this update, Apple Music's Dolby Atmos support was only available on TVs through Apple TV 4K paired with Apple HomePods or Sonos speakers connected through the Sonos app. Other smart TV makers will likely follow suit and add Dolby Atmos support to their own Apple Music Programs.
