Apple is set to release the iPad mini 7 on Wednesday, and new iPad mini owners will get the update right out of the box. Apple is shipping the iPad mini 7 with iPadOS 18.0, which is no longer the latest version of iPadOS.
iPad mini owners will need to install iPadOS 18.0.1, and Apple has a special version of the update ready to use, with version number 22A8380. iPadOS 18.0.1 includes some important bug fixes and security updates, so you’ll want to update to it immediately if you’re picking up a new iPad mini.
After the day one update, iPad mini owners will need to install the second update next Monday, when Apple releases iOS 18.1 and iPadOS 18.1. iPadOS 18.1 is the first version of iPadOS to include the Apple Intelligence features that the iPad mini 7 will support thanks to its A17 Pro chip.
Apple first announced the iPad mini last Tuesday, and with the A17 Pro chip, it includes support for Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth 5.3, and support for the Apple Pencil Pro. The iPad mini 7 retails for $499.
