iOS 18.2 public beta 2 is now available, here's everything new

Apple today released the public beta of iOS 18.2 to users. The latest update includes all the new Apple Intelligence features of iOS 18.2, as well as several performance changes and improvements. Here's everything new.

Installing the latest iOS 18.2 public beta

iOS 18.2 will be released to the public in December, but until then, users can get a sneak peek at the new features by joining the public beta.

You can sign up at beta.apple.com, then download and install the new software update on your iPhone.

If you've already been a member of Apple's beta software program, you'll find the public beta 2 ready to install in Settings ⇾ General ⇾ Software Update.

All the new features in public beta 2

Today's new beta release includes a ton of bug fixes and performance improvements for a smoother user experience. But there are a few feature changes worth noting.

Here's what's new:

  • Videos in the Photos app now play full screen without having to first tap the screen to zoom in or out
  • Camera controls can now open the Camera app even if your iPhone 16's screen is off
  • New icons have been added for the upcoming next-generation CarPlay
  • The AirPlay icon has been redesigned slightly
  • The ChatGPT icon in writing tools has lost its AI glow

It's a short list, but perhaps unsurprisingly so as the public launch of iOS 18.2 quickly approaches.

The closer we get to December, the more Apple will prioritize bug fixes over feature changes. This is to ensure that the public launch build is as stable as possible.
