Apple News+ is expanding its puzzle collection again. With the release of iOS 18.2 beta 1, Apple News+ now offers daily Sudoku puzzles in easy, medium, and hard difficulty levels. You can also track your Sudoku scores right in the Apple News app.
The new puzzles were first spotted by Chris Carley on Threads yesterday. With the addition of Sudoku, Apple News+ now offers daily puzzles for subscribers:
- Sudoku (starting with iOS 18.2)
- Quartly (starting with iOS 17.5)
- Crossword (starting with iOS 17)
- Mini Crossword (starting with iOS 17)
You can find the games in the News app by going to the Subscriptions tab and tapping the Puzzles option. It's only available to Apple News+ subscribers, and Apple News+ is only available in the US, UK, Australia, and Canada. Apple News+ Puzzles are even more limited in availability, and are only available in the US and Canada.
iOS 18.2 is currently in developer beta and is only available on phones with Apple Intelligence (iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, and all iPhone 16 models). The update will likely be released to a wider range of beta testers in November and released to everyone in December.
9to5Mac's Take
With the addition of Sudoku games in iOS 18.2, I'll reiterate my request for Apple to redesign the Apple News app to make these puzzles more discoverable.
With the new Apple Sports app, do we still need a separate Sports tab in the Apple News app? At least let me customize the toolbar by replacing the Sports section with a Puzzles section.
