Here's When to Expect the First M4 Macs to Launch

Apple is moving quickly forward with its next-generation Apple Silicon plans. According to new reports this week, the first M4 Macs are expected this year. Here's what to expect.

M4 Mac: What We Know So Far

In the latest edition of his Power On newsletter, Bloomberg's Mark Gurman offered some additional details about Apple's plans for the M4 Mac. According to Gurman, we can expect the first updates to arrive later this year — starting with the 24-inch iMac and entry-level MacBook Pro.

Here's the full timeline outlined by Gurman. which may vary depending on supply, production and other factors:

  1. Low-end 14-inch MacBook Pro with M4 coming around late 2024.
  2. 24-inch iMac with the M4 also expected around the end of the year.
  3. New high-end 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pros with M4 Pro/Max chips should arrive between late 2024 and early 2025.
  4. Mac mini in M4 and M4 Pro configurations will appear in late 2024 or early 2025.
  5. New 13-inch and 15-inch MacBook Air screens, scheduled for release in spring 2025.
  6. Mac Studio with high-performance M4 chip expected around mid-2025.
  7. Mac Pro with M4 Ultra chip expected in second half of 2025.

We We still don't know any technical details about what the M4 processor family will offer. Bloomberg reported that Apple will emphasize artificial intelligence, but how that will actually manifest itself remains to be seen. Apple plans to add a host of new artificial intelligence features as part of the next round of software updates, including iOS 18 and macOS 15.
