Here's How Much Lighter the New iPad Pro Magic Keyboard Really Is

Update: The new Magic Keyboard for the 11-inch iPad Pro weighs 580 grams, according to the user who received them first. This is less than 601 grams of the previous model.

When Apple announced the new iPad Pro line last week, it also introduced a new Magic Keyboard accessory that was touted as “thinner and lighter.” than its predecessor.

Although Apple doesn't reveal official weight specifications for iPad accessories, early reviews of the iPad Pro M4 today confirm that the new Magic Keyboard is noticeably lighter.

As shown in several iPad Pro reviews, including from Jason Snell and Chris Lawley, the new Magic Keyboard for the 13-inch iPad Pro weighs 667 grams. Other reviews have slightly different numbers: Brian Tong's review shows the 13-inch Magic Keyboard to weigh 662 grams, while The Verge's review says it weighs 658 grams.

Even despite the slight differences in reviews, the new 13-inch Magic Keyboard is noticeably lighter than its predecessor, which weighed about 710 grams.

The difference in the weight of the Magic Keyboard becomes even more noticeable when you remember that the 13-inch iPad Pro itself is much lighter than before. The 13-inch iPad Pro M4 weighs 579 grams, compared to the previous generation's 682 grams.

In total, this means:

  • 12.9-inch. iPad M2 + Magic Keyboard = 1392 grams
  • 13-inch iPad Pro M4 + Magic Keyboard = 1246 grams

For comparison, the M3 13 2-inch MacBook Air weighs approx. 1240 grams. Make of this comparison as you wish!

I didn't find a single review of the 11-inch iPad Pro that mentioned the weight of the Magic Keyboard accessory. I'll be sure to update this post when I can confirm this number.
