Here are Apple's full iOS 18.1 release notes

iOS 18.1 RC is now available to developers and public beta testers. The update will arrive next week with a ton of important new features and major fixes. While we've been chronicling all the changes over the past two months, Apple also shared the full release notes for the update.

As always, OS 18.1 has features that aren't mentioned in Apple's release notes, like TikTok integration into Apple Music and updates to iPhone Mirroring. You can check out our full, detailed update guide for a quick rundown.

Here are the iOS 18.1 features that Apple felt were important enough to merit a mention in the release notes:

Apple Intelligence (all iPhone 16 models, iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max)

Writing Tools
- Writing Tools are available almost anywhere you type, allowing you to rewrite, proofread, and summarize text right in the application you're working in
- Rewrite suggests different versions of your text so you can choose which combination of flow and wording you like best
- Proofread lets you see suggested improvements to what you're writing, such as grammar corrections and language refinements
- Summarize lets you highlight text wherever you write and create a high-quality summary
Siri
- The new look includes a glowing light that wraps around the edge of your screen, animates in response to the sound of your voice, and lets you continue scrolling or typing while you talk to Siri.
- Type to Siri when you don’t want to speak a request out loud by double-tapping at the bottom of the screen.
- Deeper language understanding lets Siri follow along if you stutter or change your mind mid-sentence.
- Conversation context is preserved across sessions, so you can more naturally refer to what you said in a recent request or what Siri mentioned in a recent answer.
- Product knowledge helps you get answers to thousands of questions about the features and settings of your Apple products.
- Voice enhancements make Siri sound more natural, expressive, and clear.
Photos
- Photos Search lets you find photos and videos by simply describing what you're looking for
- Cleanup removes distractions from your photos
- Create movies of memories by describing the story you want to see
Notifications
- Notification summaries make it easy to keep track of notifications with a visual overview of the most important information.
- Reduce Interruptions is the new Focus that ensures the most urgent notifications get to you while cutting out potential distractions.
Smart Reply in Mail and Messages helps you quickly respond to messages with suggested replies.
Priority messages in Mail understand the content of your messages and prioritize the ones that need your attention by displaying them at the top of your inbox.
Transcription summaries in Notes give you an intelligently generated transcription summary of your audio or call recording.

Phone

Call recordings and transcriptions let you record calls in real time and transcribe them in the Notes app, with automatic notification that the call is being recorded.

Camera

Camera controls let you quickly switch to the front-facing TrueDepth camera (iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Plus, iPhone 16 Pro, iPhone 16 Pro Max).
Spatial photography and spatial video are available in the new Spatial Camera mode (iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max).

Please, please add back the “cumulative addition” feature in the calculator (ie. enter a number, hit plus, then each time you hit equal, the original number is added to the total)

I used it all the time in construction to distribute things evenly… iOS18 calculator removed it 🙁

This update also includes the following improvements and bug fixes:

Control Center now has new options to individually add connection controls and reset settings
RCS Business Messaging lets you contact businesses over RCS (requires carrier support)
App Store search lets you use natural language to more easily find what you're looking for
Friend invitations to Game Center can be sent directly from the Contacts app and Friend Suggestions, and recipients can see the invitations in their inbox in Settings
Fixed an issue in Podcasts where unplayed episodes were marked as played
Fixed an issue where videos recorded in 4K 60 during playback would cause the device to get hot and might stutter when rewinding the video in the Photos app.
Fixed an issue where digital car keys might not unlock or start the car using passive entry after restoring from a backup or transferring directly from another iPhone.
Fixed an issue where iPhone 16 or iPhone 16 Pro models might restart unexpectedly.
