Gurman: iOS 18.2 will be released a little earlier than usual

According to Mark Gurman's latest Power On newsletter, Apple will release iOS 18.2 a little earlier than usual, the week of December 2. He also provides some additional details about the timing of upcoming Apple Intelligence features.

In this news release, Bloomberg's Mark Gurman writes an interesting update on the iOS 18.2 release date:

I'm told that the iOS 18.2 operating system update, which includes major Apple Intelligence […] improvements, will likely arrive in early December. How much earlier? The week of December 2, barring any unexpected delays.

That's a little earlier than usual, though not necessarily surprising. Apple is likely eager to roll out the next wave of AI features, including Genmoji and ChatGPT integration, as soon as possible.

Previously, iOS x.2 updates have been released around the second week of December, with iOS 17.2 launching on December 11 and iOS 16.2 on December 13.

This means the public will be able to use Apple’s second wave of Apple Intelligence about a week earlier than usual.

He also writes that iOS 18.4, “the next major Apple Intelligence update,” will be released in April. iOS x.4 updates are typically released in March, so that’s actually a little later than usual. Hopefully, the wait will be worth it.

iOS 18.4 is expected to include major updates to Siri, including support for personal context.
