The new Apple M4 iPad Pro and M2 iPad Air feature a new iPad battery health setting that, when enabled, prevents devices from constantly charging above 80%, which can extend battery life.
When the 80% hard limit is enabled, the iPad will never charge beyond this percentage, except in rare cases, according to Apple cases where it is necessary to “maintain accurate battery charge level estimates.” Apple says shortening the time it takes to fully charge a battery can reduce battery wear and extend its life.

Shortening the time your iPad stays fully charged, reducing battery wear. On iPad Pro (M4) and iPad Air (M2), you can limit charging to 80 percent, which can help extend battery life. When you select the “80% Limit,” your iPad will charge to about 80 percent and then stop charging. If the battery level drops to 75 percent, charging will resume until the battery level reaches approximately 80 percent again.
How to set the iPad battery limit to 80%
- Open the Settings app on your M4 iPad Pro or M2 iPad Air.
- Tap Battery ➝ Battery Status.
- Tap the switch next to 80% Limit. Strong> to enable this feature.
Note that in the new Battery Status Settings menu, you can also view the manufacturing date of your iPad battery, as well as the month. and the year of first use.
